Privacy Policy

How Grease Shields handles personal information, analytics, and your privacy choices.

Effective date: October 31, 2026
Last updated: October 31, 2026

In short: We collect the information you send through our quote form so we can respond to your request. We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used. Analytics is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time using the control in section 5. We do not sell personal information or use advertising cookies.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

Grease Shields provides commercial kitchen hood, canopy and accessible exhaust cleaning and maintenance, grease trap cleaning and maintenance, and commercial kitchen equipment cleaning across the Island of Newfoundland. We are based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit greaseshields.com, request a quote, contact us, or interact with the analytics and embedded content on the site. It applies to this website and to the quote and contact forms. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control.

For privacy questions or requests, contact us at contact@greaseshields.com or +1 (709) 779-1010.

2. Information you provide to us

When you submit the quote form on the homepage or contact page, we collect the information you enter:

  • your name, email address, and phone number;
  • your business name, if you provide it;
  • the service you are interested in;
  • the last cleaning date and number of hood systems, if you provide them; and
  • any details you include in the message field.

We use this information to respond to your request, understand the service you need, prepare a quote, schedule work, and keep related business records. Please do not include sensitive personal information, such as health, financial, or identity information, in the message field. If you need to discuss something sensitive, contact us first and we will arrange an appropriate way to communicate.

The form is processed by Web3Forms, a form-handling service, and delivered to us by email. The form also includes a hidden anti-spam field. We do not use the form to create an account or to sign you up for marketing messages.

3. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider and analytics tools process technical information when you visit:

  • Hosting and security data. Cloudflare, our hosting provider, processes request data such as your IP address, request time, requested URL, browser type, and referring page to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Analytics data. If analytics is enabled, Google Analytics 4 collects information about your visit, such as the pages you view, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, referral source, and interactions such as quote link clicks, phone, email, or WhatsApp link clicks, and starting and submitting the quote form. These events record the type of interaction and the page area, not the phone number, email address, or message content. Google states that Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses; it uses the IP address to provide and protect the service and to give us a sense of where our visitors come from.
  • Google Fonts. Our pages request fonts from Google Fonts. Google's servers receive your IP address, the requested URL, your browser user agent, and the referring page to serve the font files. Google states that the Google Fonts API does not set or log cookies and does not use the data for profiling or targeted advertising.
  • Video thumbnails and players. Pages with a video may load a thumbnail image from YouTube's image servers before you press play. When you press play, the YouTube player is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information through these technical processes, and we do not use them to identify you by name.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We also use browser local storage to remember your analytics choice. The table below describes the main cookies and storage used by the site when analytics is allowed.

Cookies and similar technologies
Name Provider Purpose Duration
_ga Google Distinguishes users for Google Analytics measurement. Up to 2 years (Google default).
_ga_<container-id> Google Persists session state for Google Analytics. Up to 2 years (Google default).
gs_analytics_preference Grease Shields Stores your analytics choice in local storage. It is not sent to us. Until you clear your browser storage.
Set by YouTube Google / YouTube May be set or used after you play an embedded video. Controlled by Google; see Google's cookie policy.

Google Fonts does not set cookies, but requests to Google's servers include the technical information described in section 3. We do not use advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking cookies.

When you turn analytics off, we stop sending analytics data from this site, set Google's opt-out flag for this site, and clear the first-party analytics cookies we can access. Data already sent to Google is subject to Google's retention settings. You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on and your browser's cookie controls.

5. Analytics and your choices

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, which pages are useful, and whether people request quotes. We do not use Google Analytics advertising features, Google Signals, or ads personalization. The Google tag is configured to disable Google Signals and ad personalization and to redact advertising identifiers.

Analytics is on by default for all visitors, with an easy opt-out. You can turn it off at any time using the control below.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal and you have not made a choice on this site, analytics is off. You can still choose to turn it on for this site. If you have already made a choice on this site, we use that choice.

Your choice is stored in local storage on your device. It is not sent to us. Turning analytics off stops Google Analytics from receiving data from this site, sets Google's opt-out flag for this measurement ID, and clears the first-party analytics cookies we can access. It does not delete data that Google already received; that data is subject to Google's retention settings.

6. How we use information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • to respond to quote requests and questions;
  • to understand the service you need and prepare a quote;
  • to schedule and provide cleaning and maintenance services;
  • to keep service and business records;
  • to understand how the website is used and improve its content and performance;
  • to protect the website, prevent abuse, and maintain security; and
  • to comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not sell personal information.

7. Legal bases and your choices

We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies. We provide an analytics opt-out and honor Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals when no saved choice exists.

For quote and contact information, we rely on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract or on our legitimate interests in responding to inquiries and providing services. We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

You can withdraw consent or object at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it. To turn off analytics, use the control in section 5. To object to other processing or withdraw consent, contact us.

8. How we share information

We share personal information only as needed to operate the website and provide our services:

  • Service providers. We use Cloudflare for hosting, Web3Forms for form handling, and Google for analytics, fonts, and video content. These providers process information on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own terms.
  • Professional advisers and authorities. We may disclose information to professional advisers or to a court, regulator, or law enforcement authority when required by law or necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property.
  • Business transfer. If the business is sold, merged, or reorganized, personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to applicable privacy law.

We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

9. Service providers and international transfers

Our main service providers are:

These providers may process information in Canada, the United States, and other countries where they operate. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from Canadian law. We rely on the providers' contractual terms and safeguards for these transfers. Contact us if you would like more information about the safeguards that apply to your information.

10. How long we keep information

We keep quote and contact information for as long as needed to respond to your request, provide services, and maintain related business records. We delete or anonymize it when it is no longer needed, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep it longer.

Google Analytics user-level data retention is configurable up to 14 months. The setting in our Google Analytics account determines how long user-level data is retained; Google may retain aggregated reports for longer. You can learn more in Google's data retention documentation.

Our hosting provider processes request logs for security and performance. We do not control the exact retention period for the provider's platform logs; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

11. How we protect information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. The website uses HTTPS, access to form submissions is limited to people who need it to respond to your request, and we rely on our service providers' security measures. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you believe your personal information has been compromised, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate steps.

12. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate information;
  • ask us to delete information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions;
  • withdraw consent or object to certain processing;
  • ask for a copy of information in a portable format where applicable; and
  • complain to a privacy regulator.

To make a request, contact us at contact@greaseshields.com or +1 (709) 779-1010. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

The website is intended for businesses and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

14. Third-party links and embedded content

Our site links to Facebook, Instagram, Google Maps, and YouTube. These services are not covered by this policy. When you follow a link or play an embedded video, the third party may collect information such as your IP address, device information, and browsing activity under its own privacy policy.

The YouTube player is loaded only after you press play, and we use the youtube-nocookie.com domain. Video thumbnails may still load from YouTube's image servers before you press play. We do not control these third-party services. Review their privacy policies before using them.

15. Changes to this policy and contact

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, the website, or applicable law. We will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice or seek consent where required.
